Mimi Bornstein is a choral director, song leader, pianist, workshop and worship leader, singer, and composer . Embracing the healing and transformational elements of music and the powerful journeys we take when we sing in community Mimi holds a deep belief that when we sing we change who we are, and when we change who we are we change the world.

Mimi works across a broad range of settings both locally and nationally. Her music and choral arrangements have been performed nationally and internationally. Choruses under Mimi’s direction have performed with noted musicians including the Grammy Award-winning Paul Winter Consort, Paul Sullivan, Theresa Thomason, and Jonathan Edwards.

With a mission to sing as a community for the community, Mimi served as Founder and Artistic Director of Midcoast Community Chorus (MCC), a non-profit community arts organization hosting a 140-voice non-auditioned multigenerational chorus. MCC provides a place for people to find voice and give voice to the issues of our time. MCC’s annual spring concerts benefit local non-profit organization doing important work in the community. MCC has donated over $100,000 since its founding in 2008.

Mimi served as Co-Founder and Co-Director of Voices United Community Chorus (VUCC) along with Charles Brown, a black gospel choir singer and choir director. VUCC, a non-auditioned, interracial, multi faith community chorus, has a mission to use music as a way of building bridges to ensure equality, opportunity and inclusion for all.

An active member of Chorus America, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Association for Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries (AAUMM), Mimi served on the AAUMM Board of Directors as well as their Director of Conferences. She has presented workshops and served as choir director and worship leader at numerous national gatherings.

All of this work has culminated in Mimi’s most recent venture serving as CEO and Co-Founder of Promote Harmony. She has a lifelong commitment to using music and singing as a pathway to building authentic relationships and communities that embrace and celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion for all.
